Gluepot Reserve is open, please do not rely on Google Maps or sat-nav systems. The only way to Gluepot is from Lunn Road off the Goyder Highway.

Environmental Education Courses 2025
Gluepot is pleased to be able to provide an annual programme of short courses -usually a day or two- on subjects relevant to the flora and fauna on the reserve. The courses for the current year are listed below. If you miss out, or are unable to attend this year, look out for the programme for next year.
20 and 21 September 2025 – Introduction to Birds and Bird Watching |

Birdwatching is fun, educational and healthy and the two-day workshop covers theories and issues of birdwatching and also includes guided trips around some of the best birding locations on Gluepot Reserve. 11 to 12 October 2025 – A Beginners Guide to Mallee Vegetation at Gluepot 2025 |

A two day course to familiarise people to the plants which grow in the Mallee. Gluepot has a range of mallee vegetation associations with over 200 species recorded. These are some of the most remarkable in the world with characteristics that allow them to flourish in poor soils, extremes of temperature, fire and drought. During the weekend we will familiarise you with a range of plants and plant groups. and suggest strategies to help you identify plants in the field. |
18 to 19 October 2025 – Painting Nature 2025 |

Bring nature to life in front of your eyes. If you've ever had the desire to paint or draw our wonderful birds, mammals, plants or insects, then this is the course for you. This two-day workshop is open to everyone regardless of their painting experience. A variety of techniques using watercolour, gouache, acrylic, pen and pencil will be explored. At the end of this workshop you will have found a style that suits you and lots of examples to remind you of technique. |
1 to 2 November 2025 – Getting to Know Reptiles |

A two day course on the basics of observing and identifying lizards and snakes in arid environments. It is aimed at anyone who has an interest in observing nature and would like to improve their abilities in finding and identifying reptiles. The course will include a lecture on lizard and snake essentials, especially the roles that temperature and humidity plan in determining activity levels. Also a workshop on identification and making the best of the reference books. Day and night walks to get familiar with the basics of encountering reptiles in the field. |
21 to 23 November 2025 – The Bats of Gluepot Reserve 2025 |

A two day course on the natural history, survey techniques and identification of the insectivorous bats occurring on Gluepot Reserve (of which there are twelve). The course will suit students and wildlife enthusiasts and will involve a combination of lectures, practical demonstrations and actual fieldwork. It will be necessary for those who want to participate in the handling of bats during trapping and identification to have completed a rabies vaccination course. Note: this course starts on the Friday night at 6.00pm. |
