Walking and Cycling
Gluepot is ideally suited for physical activities such as walking and cyling.
A number of walking tracks have been established and brochures are available for downloading below, and for picking up at the Visitor Centre. Walking tracks range from short (1.5 km) to extensive (over 7 km). Of course the vehicle tracks can be used to combine a number of walks into a longer bushwalk. The Visitor Information Centre at Gluepot has printed brochures, which can also be downloaded at the bottom of this page
Gluepot Walking Track Safety Guidelines
Gluepot is a dry mallee environment where the temperature can get extremely high (over 45°C), and humidity is normally very low. De-hydration is always a real risk.
Mallee country is also one where it is easy to become disoriented if you’re not vigilant about keeping track of where you are.
A few simple precautions should always be taken when walking at Gluepot
- Preferably walk with a companion
- If walking on your own, let someone else know where you are going and when you are expected to return.
- Carry sufficient water: at least 1 liter per person. More on long walks.
- Protect yourself from the sun
- If on a long walk take at least one piece of warm clothing
- Take a brochure for the walk you are doing which has a sketch map and brief route description
- Note the orange walk guide posts and the blue direction arrows
- Carry a navigation device and know how to use it. Eg Compass or GPS
- Carry a snake bite bandage, and know how to use it
- Carry a whistle to attract attention if you get into difficulties

Cycling
Bike riding is a safe and enjoyable experience on Gluepot. Vehicular traffic is minimal and the gently, undulating character of the terrain makes for easy riding.
The reserve is criss-crossed by tracks that enable visitors to experience the full range of vegetation associations and main features of the Reserve. The extensive track system is well marked and kept in good condition. Most tracks have a clay base with a few sandy patches where tracks cross the low dune areas. Please Note: Cycling is only permitted on the tracks.
Best times to visit are between mid-March and mid-November. Recommended bikes are mountain bikes or cross bikes as all riding is on tracks. Don’t forget a puncture repair kit.
Please note that cycling is not permitted on walking tracks
